Check-in Baggage

How to differentiate oversized baggage & oversized Sports equipment?

Oversized Baggage :

Any baggage that exceeds the weight and size permitted for hand-carry and counter check-in are defined as oversized baggage. Kindly refer to "Check-in Baggage" for the permitted baggage size.

Oversized Sports Equipment :

Due to the large size and handling complexities of some sporting equipment which cannot be accommodated through the airport baggage system or within the aircraft cargo hold, we do not accept the following equipments and any other sports-related equipment.

 

How many kilograms of free baggage allowance will I receive?

Sorry, no free baggage allowance will be provided. If you intend to carry baggage, you can purchase your baggage allowance with a surcharge (see here for surcharge fares). You may purchase up to four (4) hours prior to the scheduled time of departure. 

This surcharge is subject to our maximum baggage allowance of 40kg. You will be charged an excess baggage fee if you exceed the limit of your purchased baggage allowance.

 

Where can I purchase my baggage allowance?

Should you wish to purchase your check-in baggage to 15kg or more, this can be done via Bookings or Live Chat up to four (4) hours prior to scheduled departure time or even at the airport sales counter.

 

What are the excess baggage fees?

An excess baggage fee will be charged to a passenger who has exceeded their personal check-in baggage or cabin baggage allowance. 

Fee charges will be set at the prevailing rate on the day of travel. Fee charges are quoted and billed in the currency of the country from where the passenger is making their departure.

 

What is the weight & dimension limit for my check-in Baggage?

You can bring as many bags as you wish as long as it is within your purchased check-in baggage allowance.

However, if you have purchased more than 30 kg of baggage allowance, please note that each bag you will be checking in must follow the following requirements.

 

Can I combine my check-in baggage with my travelling companion?

The sharing, pooling, or combining of check-in baggage allowances is strictly not permitted except for members of the same family travelling under the same booking reference.

 

What items can I check in for free?

  • Baby strollers/buggies/prams.
  • Wheelchairs and mobility devices.
  • Crutches and walking frames.

The above items can be carried free of charge as check-in baggage, provided they are being used by an infant, child, elderly, disabled person, or a wheelchair user who is travelling on the flight. Otherwise, regular check-in baggage rates shall apply.

These items, except for wheelchairs or mobility devices with a battery, may be used until the boarding gate before they are checked into the hold of the aircraft. Depending on the airport you arrive at, the pushchairs/strollers/prams can be restored to you outside the aircraft door, at the bottom of the steps, or at the baggage carousel.

 

What items are prohibited from being carried in my baggage?

According to International Travel Standards, you may not carry the following articles into the restricted security area or on board an aircraft. 

(a) Pointed/edged Weapons & Sharp Objects.

  • Axes & hatchets, arrows and darts, crampons (grappling iron, hooked bar of iron, or plate with iron spikes used in mountaineering)
  • Harpoons & spears, ice axes & ice picks, ice skates, lockable or flick knives with blades of any length, knives, including ceremonial, religious and hunting knives made of metal
  • Meat cleavers, machetes, open razors and blades (excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in cartridge), sabres, swords and swordsticks, scalpels, scissors with blades of any length, ski and walking/hiking poles, throwing stars, tradesman's tools that have the potential to be used as a pointed or edged weapon, e.g. drills and drill bits, box cutters, utility knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches/spanners, blow torches.

Please take note that any sharp objects in check-in baggage should be securely wrapped to prevent injury to screeners and handling personnel.

(b) Blunt Instuments

  • Baseball and softball bats, clubs or batons, badminton or tennis rackets - rigid or flexible - e.g. billy clubs, blackjacks, night sticks & batons, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey and hurley sticks, lacrosse sticks;
  • Kayak and canoe paddles, skateboards, billiard, snooker and pool cues, fishing rods;
  • Martial arts equipment, e.g. knuckle dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails, nun-chucks, kubatons,

(c) Batteries (Lithium, Lithium Ion Cells, Batteries, and Spare Batteries)

  • Cabin Baggage: Electronics devices such as cameras, cellular phones, laptops, and camcorders containing lithium or lithium-ion cells (a Wh rating exceeding 100Wh but not exceeding 160Wh) for personal use are allowed for carriage into the
  • Check-in Baggage: Portable electronic devices containing lithium metal or lithium- ion cells, or batteries are allowed in check-in Baggage EXCEPT for e-cigarettes and self-balancing battery-powered small vehicles (E.g: Electric Bicycle and Segway). Spare batteries, for example power banks are NOT allowed in check-in Baggage. Wheelchairs and mobility devices with batteries can only be carried as check-in baggage given that the batteries must be prepared for the flight according to our policy.

The following items are prohibited in your baggage whether it is checked in or not:

(a) Any Guns, Firearms & Weapons.

  • Component parts of firearms
  • Replica firearms, (e.g. air pistols, pellet guns, signal flare pistols, starter pistols, toy guns of all types, ball bearing guns, industrial bolt and nail guns, cross bows, harpoon and spear guns, lighters shaped like a firearm)
  • Stun guns, (e.g. cattle prods)

(b)Explosives and flammable substances

  • Ammunition, blasting caps, detonators & fuses, explosives and explosive devices, replica or imitation explosive material or devices, mines & other explosive military stores,
  • Grenades of all types, gas & gas containers, e.g. butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen                -- in large volume, fireworks, flares in any form and other pyrotechnics (including party poppers and toy caps), non-safety matches, smoke-generating canisters or cartridges, flammable liquid fuel, e.g. petrol/gasoline, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol, aerosol spray paint, turpentine & paint thinner, alcoholic beverages.
  • Vehicle fuel system components which contain fuel, items with internal combustion
  • Self-heating meals / Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs) or beverages with Flameless Ration Heater (FRH)

(c) Chemical and toxic

  • Acids and alkalis, g. spillable "wet" batteries,
  • Corrosive or bleaching substances - e.g. mercury, chlorine, disabling or incapacitating sprays - g. mace, pepper spray, tear gas, radioactive material
  • Infectious or biological hazardous material - g. infected blood, bacteria and viruses

(d) Live plants and flowers.

  • We will not accept as check-in or as hand carry, any plants or plant products be it plants potted in soil, plants with roots, seeds, with or without a Phytosanitary Certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture or any government

This list is not exhaustive and other items may be included. Our crew reserves the right to confiscate any item deemed a threat to the safety of our passengers.

 

Can I check in my Smart Baggage?

 

Smart Baggage will be allowed as check-in baggage based on the following requirements:

  • If the batteries are non-removable, they must not exceed 0.3g for lithium metal and 2.7Wh (Watt-hour) for lithium-ion.
  • If smart baggage with lithium batteries exceeds the above limit and its battery cannot be removed, then it is forbidden as/in a cabin and check-in baggage.
  • If its batteries are removable, they must be removed and carried as or in the cabin baggage. WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS must be switched
  • A maximum of two (2) spare batteries in the cabin baggage is allowed. 

 

Hand / Cabin Baggage

What is MYAirline’s hand-carry and cabin baggage policy?

You are allowed to bring onboard two (2) pieces of baggage as part of your cabin baggage allowance, as long as the total weight of both items combined does not exceed 7kg.

The dimensions of a cabin bag must not exceed 56cm x 36cm x 23cm including the handles, wheels, and side pockets. This bag must be able to fit in the overhead compartment of the aircraft cabin.

You may also carry one (1) laptop bag, handbag, backpack, or any other small bag which must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 10cm. This item must be able to fit under the seat in front of you.

Important notice: Multiple items that are strapped, wrapped, or tied together will not be counted as one piece of cabin baggage.

If your baggage weight exceeds the permitted cabin baggage limit, you must purchase check-in baggage allowance prior to the flight. Baggage purchases or upgrades can be done on the MYAirline website. This option is available up to four (4) hours prior to departure time.

Smart Baggage is allowed as cabin baggage provided it meets the following requirements:

Can I carry infant formula, baby food, or breast milk in my cabin baggage?

Infant Formula / Baby Food: Yes, but only an appropriate amount of infant formula & baby food for the duration of the journey is allowed. This amount must also be in accordance with the restrictions on liquids, gels and aerosols (LAGs) by airport authorities. 

Breast Milk: MYAirline has no restrictions on the amount of breast milk that can be declared as hand carry baggage. However, the entry of breast milk depends on the security screening rules of various airports and is solely up to the security officer’s discretion to allow or restrict entry.

 

What is the cabin baggage allowance for infants and children?

Infants under the age of 2 years are not allocated any cabin baggage. Children aged 2 years and above will be given the same allocation of cabin baggage allowance as mentioned above.

Pockit™ baby strollers or foldable baby strollers are allowed as cabin baggage as long as it is within our cabin baggage allowance.

 

Are items purchased at the airport considered part of my cabin baggage?

All items purchased at the airport will form part of your cabin baggage allowance.

Only duty-free items packed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) which is sealed (until your final destination) and accompanied with proof of purchase, are exempted from your cabin baggage allowance provided it is within the duty-free allowance of your destination country.

Important notice: Regulations regarding the carriage of duty-free items may vary depending on each airport operator’s policies. If unsure, please check with your local duty-free store personnel.

 

Sports Equipment

Do I need to purchase a Sports Equipment Allowance/Handling fee?

Yes. Please refer to the list below on the charges, packing & handling guidelines.

Golf Sets
  • Kept in a golf bag.
  • Only contain a maximum of 14 golf sticks, a dozen golf balls, umbrellas and a pair of golf shoes.
  • Should be a general and standard size.


*Any number of pieces are allowed with a combined weight not exceeding the pre-booked weight. Each piece must not exceed 32 Kg.

Bicycle

One bicycle is accepted as one sports equipment in the following manner:

  • Handle Bars must be turned in so that they are in alignment with the frame.
  • Pedals should either be removed/ checked-in to prevent them from causing damage to other bicycles or check-in Baggage
  • The gears should be wrapped to protect them from damage
  • Tyres must be deflated
  • Mudguards can either be removed or should be protected from damage. 
  • Loose items e.g. pump, lights, water bottle and etc. must be securely fastened to the bicycle or removed and checked-in.


On top of that, your bicycle also must be properly packed in a recognised bicycle bag or in a protective box or bag or in plastic wrap or otherwise, it will be refused for carriage.​ The packaging also should adhere to the general and standard dimensions. 

Please note that any removed bicycle parts may be carried as cabin Baggage if deemed fit by you, provided it meets the cabin Baggage weight and dimensions.

Diving Equipment *

  • Packed in a recognized kit bag
  • Must not weigh more than 32kg per bag.
  • Can be packed together with;
    1. One scuba regulator,
    2. Tank harness,
    3. Tank pressure gauge, 
    4. Face mask, 
    5. A pair of fins,
    6. Dive suit/vest, 
    7. Buoyancy control device (BCD),
    8. Snorkel, 
    9. Weight belt and cylinder tank.

Diving Tank/Aqualung/Air Tank*
(Part of Diving Equipment)

DEFINITION OF A DIVING TANK AND ITS CONTENTS

    1. Diving Tank/Aqualung/Air Tank
    2. This is an aluminium tank made to contain compressed air
    3. It is meant only for leisure diving. It contains air and not oxygen
    4. There is only 1 valve and when turning anti clockwise (pressure gauge reads zero), the valve is open and air escapes, and the tank is empty.
    5. If there is a pressure gauge then it should read ZERO or it might also have a temperature gauge, which MUST read below 20 degrees Centigrade or 68 degrees Fahrenheit.


HANDLING PROCEDURE

    1. Make sure the O-Ring (a rubber ring like an O on the outside of the valve) is taken out and kept by the passenger.
    2. Once the passenger has emptied the tank in the agent’s presence or has confirmed to the above authorized personnel that the tank is empty, the open valve must then be taped and sealed securely, this is to act as verification that the tank was emptied and checked by staff members


Diving tank MUST NOT CONTAIN ANY AIR, AND THE TANK VALVE MUST BE FULLY OPENED. Otherwise, it becomes a dangerous and prohibited item.

Ski Equipment /  Snow Board

  • Must be packed in a recognized ski and or snowboard bags
  • Can be packed together with one pair of skis, poles, and boots OR one snowboard and boots.

Cricket equipment

Cricket equipment such as bats, wickets, pads, and balls must be packed in a cricket coffin or bag. 

Angling/Fishing

  • Packed in a recognized angling rod case or bag.
  • Rods and reels contained in a case and one bag with fishing tackle, landing net and fishing boots

Archery

  • Packed in a standard bow and arrow case.
  • One bow, one quiver and arrows

Field Hockey

  • Packed in a standard team kit bags not exceeding maximum Baggage dimensions.
  • Sticks, balls, and pads in one equipment bag

Ice Hockey

  • Packed in a recognized ice hockey kit or team bag.
  • Team kit including sticks.

Ten Pin Bowling

  • Must be packed in a non-rolling carry case.
  • Bowling case with bowling balls and shoes.

Tennis / Badminton / Squash*

  • Packed in a standard single or multiple racket kit bag.
  • Rackets and balls/shuttle

Please note: 
*Any number of pieces are allowed with a combined weight not exceeding the pre-booked weight or at the airport rate. Each piece must not exceed 32 KG.

*Diving Equipment & Diving Tank

  1. Please note that authority from Officer on Duty must be obtained prior to acceptance of carriage. 
  2. High intensity diving lamps and normal portable diving lamps (torch lights) which contain rechargeable lead acid batteries, spillable or non-spillable will not be accepted on board our aircraft as check-in nor as cabin Baggage as it comes under Dangerous Goods Regulation.
  3. Also note that without the check-in of a diving tank, the equipment will not be considered as sports equipment and must be checked-in as normal Baggage.

 

How about oversized Sports Equipment? 

Due to the large size and handling complexities of some sporting equipment which cannot be accommodated through the airport baggage system or within the aircraft cargo hold, we do not accept the following equipment:

  • Hang gliders
  • Sails
  • Kayaks, canoes, and oars
  • Pole vaults
  • Javelins
Mishandled Baggage and Lost Items

How do I deal with damaged baggage or content? Damaged Baggage Content

If you find that the items in your check-in baggage were damaged, please approach the baggage office to report the damage and our staff will attend to your complaint.

 

Damaged Baggage

You should immediately approach one of our passenger service officers BEFORE you leave            the airport. Details of the damage to your baggage will be recorded and you will be offered immediate assistance, if necessary.

Please note that we will not be responsible for:

  1. Damage to accessories and/or effects of wear and tear shall not be covered by us.
  2. Overpacked or unsuitably packed baggage and non-standard of luggage that are checked-in and accepted by MYAirline under “limited release” shall remove our liability if said items are damaged.

To avoid any unpleasant experience or further inconvenience during your trip, we would strongly recommend you to obtain adequate travel insurance cover before you fly.

 

Items Accidentally Left Behind

  • Any items left behind at the screening and checkpoint will be kept in the possession of airport security. It will not be handed over to MYAirline staff.
  • Any items that have been confiscated or removed due to security issues or for non-compliance with the airport rules will not be returned.
  • Any items found at the airport terminal will be handed over to the airport authorities. Please proceed to the airport security office to ask for the whereabouts of the items left behind.
  • Any items found onboard the aircraft will be forwarded to the lost property offices at the respective airports. If you misplaced an item onboard one of our flights, please approach the MYAirline lost & found office at the respective airport of your destination.

Delayed Baggage

Sometimes, your baggage will be delayed and will not arrive at your destination at the same time as you. This can happen for a number of reasons:

  • Bad weather which delays loading and unloading
  • Full flights with too much check-in baggage especially during the festive holidays
  • Late check-in of baggage

Should your bag fail to arrive at the reclaim carousel after the arrival of the last bag, please check with our ground service personnel or representatives

What you should do?

Here is a step-by-step method of what you should do if your baggage is missing.

Step 1 – As soon as all baggage has stopped coming through the carousel, immediately approach one of our friendly passenger service officers at the airport before leaving the airport.

Step 2 – Provide the officer with your booking number or baggage tag that was given to you at the time of check-in to enable them to track your baggage.

Step 3 – A Property Irregularity Report (PIR) form will be given to you. Upon completion, you will be given a PIR number.

If your baggage is found, you or a friend will have to collect the baggage from the nearest airport.

If you wish to file a claim or an action regarding the delay of check-in baggage, you must notify us within twenty-one (21) calendar days from the date the baggage has been placed at your disposal.

 

Baggage declared Lost

Your Baggage will be declared lost after a period of 7 calendar days for Domestic travel, and 14 calendar days for international travel, from the date when the PIR is lodged. In order for us to process your claims, we will required the following : -

  • Copy of passenger passport / ID
  • Copy of passenger bank book / statement
  • SWIFT/BCB/IBN code (for international transaction)
  • An authorisation letter for 3rd party account (if proxy is nominated)
  • Copy of 3rd party passport / ID (if proxy is nominated)

You will be contacted by our Central Baggage Tracing Office staff for further action.

Musical Instruments

Can be checked in as your baggage allowance although it is not advisable due to the risk of damage. 

Can be carried on board at no extra cost if the instrument fits the cabin baggage policy. 

If it exceeds, you will need to purchase an extra seat.

However it must not exceed 75 kg and the permitted dimension - height 103cm, length 41cm, width 41cm.

Wedding Dress

Needs to be checked in if it exceeds 7kg.

If carried onboard, the wedding dress must be properly packed to fit our cabin baggage policy. 

Please note that any storage facilities to hang or store items are not available onboard.

Television (TV)

TV and the set packed together should not exceed 32 kg in weight. 

It must be properly packed and protected with internal padding to protect from impact.

You will be required to sign a release of indemnity form releasing MYAirline from liabilities. 

You are also advised to purchase a Travel Insurance package.

Not allowed 

Valuable Items

Money, jewellery, precious metals, silverware, identification documents.

These items are not permitted to be carried in your check-in baggage.

Can be carried in as long as it fits the cabin baggage policy. 

However, you are required to be mindful of any security risk and strongly encouraged to ensure the items are securely packed. 


Motorised Personal Vehicle / Transporter

Self-balancing battery powered small vehicles are levitating platforms (like a skateboard without wheels) that can be used for personal transportation.

These items are not permitted as carry on nor checked in baggage.

 

Does MYAirline carry cargo?

Unfortunately, no.

Inflatable/convertible travel bed

Can I bring In-flight Comfort Products (ICP) such as an inflatable/convertible travel bed onboard?

You are allowed to bring innovative convertible and inflatable products for your own comfort onboard.

However, the carriage and usage of such products MUST meet the following criteria;

  1. Follows the cabin baggage policy on pieces, weight, and
  2. Fits the seat's pitch and width and properly secured onto the seat without interfering or causing damage to the armrest, tray table, and seat pocket. If it does not fit the aircraft seat, it is NOT ALLOWED to be used and must be stowed
  3. Must NOT be used adjacent to an emergency exit
  4. Does not restrict the seat movement of the passengers seated next to you and their accessibility to the aisle(s).
  5. Must be used at window seat (for single-aisle aircraft)
  6. It must be securely stowed in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front during pushback, taxiing, take-off, landing, in the event of an emergency, or whenever instructed
  7. For large inflatables, only those that are equipped with emergency pressure/release valve and/or quick release valves (refer to the illustration below) will be allowed on board.

  8. Only children aged two (2) years and above are permitted to use inflatable / convertible inflight bed. The child must be seated facing forward and able to fasten the seat belt under his/her arm.

  • Hammock are NOT permitted.

 

Carriage of Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs)

International regulations restrict the quantity of liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAG) you can carry on board international flights, these restrictions do not apply to your check-in baggage.

  • LAG items such as drinks, creams, perfumes, sprays, gels, and toothpaste must be in containers of 100 ml / 4oz (volume), 100 grams (weight) or less.
  • All LAG containers should fit comfortably in a transparent re-sealable plastic
  • You are limited to only one transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a volume no greater than one litre and the bag's sealed area must add up to no more than 80 cm (e.g. 20x20 cm or 15x25 cm).
  • Any LAGs carried in a container larger than 100ml will not be accepted as a carry-on item, even if the container is only part-filled.

EXEMPTION:

  • Medication and food for special dietary requirements including baby food are permitted in your cabin baggage in a reasonable quantity for your flight. They must be declared and may be subject to additional security
  • Duty-free items purchased at the airport in the security restricted areas of the terminal on the day of travel do not form part your cabin baggage allowance provided it is within the duty-free allowance of your destination country. Items need to be packed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEBs), remain sealed and accompanied with proof of purchase until your final destination.

LAGs that do not meet the regulations by the airport security personne will be disposed.

Regulations regarding the carriage of duty-free items may vary depending on each airport operator’s policies. If unsure, please check with your local duty-free store personnel.

 

Can I bring my pet / animal / guide dog on board?

Our standard policy is that we do not accept any pets / animals / guide dogs on board our flights.
